The TDE, designated AT 2020neh, became visible when it blasted out a flare of radiation so powerful that it briefly outshone every star in its galaxy combined. The violent disruption came from an intermediate-mass black hole between around 100,000 and 1 million times the mass of the sun located in dwarf galaxy SDSS J152120.07+140410.5 about 850 million light-years from Earth.
